SDI Advanced Adventure Diver
If you have already completed your Open Water Scuba Diver course and now want to learn more skills but want to explore different types of diving first, the SDI Advanced Adventure Diver course is right for you. This course helps you try new diving styles before choosing a full specialty course. The SDI Advanced Adventure program introduces you to five SDI specialty dives. Two specialties are mandatory: Deep Diver and Navigation Diver. These two create a strong foundation for your future dive training.
You can choose from other specialty dive options such as:
- Advanced Buoyancy
- Control
- Altitude Diver
- Boat Diver
- Computer Nitrox Diver
- Drift Diver
- Marine Ecosystem Awareness
- And many more!
This course provides you with a basic introduction to each selected specialty. It does not fully complete the specialty. One dive from each specialty can be counted later if you decide to pursue a full specialty certification.

Course Prerequisites:
- Minimum age: 18 years, or 10 years with parental consent
- SDI Open Water Scuba Diver or equivalent
- SDI Junior Open Water Scuba Diver or equivalent
Limits For Junior Divers:
- Deep Diving: Maximum depth for ages 10-15 is 21 meters / 70 feet
- Dry Suit Diving: Minimum age 12 years
- Wreck Diving: Limited penetration, minimum age 15 years
The Water You Practice The Skill
Demonstrate the skills required for one dive in each chosen specialty and both core specialties
Deep Diver Open Water Dive
- Check and test all dive equipment
- Become familiar with the dive site
- Descend safely to the planned depth
- Follow the dive plan without exceeding the limits
- 30 meters / Dive to 100 feet
- Divers ages 10-15 stay within 21 meters / 70 feet
- Ascend to safety stops
- Exit dives and log dives
Navigation Open Water Dive
- Set reference points and plan dives
- Enter water from shore or boat
- Practice out and back navigation on the surface
- Practice square and triangle patterns on the surface
- Square navigation underwater
- Triangle navigation underwater
- Ascend to safety
- Exit water and log dives
SDI Advanced Adventure Diver Minimum Requirements:
- Complete the SDI Advanced Adventure Knowledge Quests with an 80% passing score
- Complete Instructor Improvements for 100% understanding
- Complete all course steps correctly
- Demonstrate the ability to make safe and smart decisions while diving
