SDI Open Water Diver Course

Open Water Diver

The SDI Open Water Diver course is the first step in introducing you to the world of underwater adventure or scuba diving. This course teaches you the keys to diving, such as buoyancy control, underwater communication, dive planning and safety rules.

Our instructors at Blue Water Ascent provide a hands-on learning experience. This is to ensure that you gain confidence and competence with each dive. You will go through confined and open water training and gain a tangible method of experience under the guidance of experts.

Key Highlights:

Advanced Adventurer

The next step in diving will be the SDI Advanced Adventure.  This program will enable you to experience a variety of specialised dives.

The SDI Advanced Adventure course will give you an overview of five different SDI specialties. Two of the required specialties are the Deep Diver and Navigation Diver specialties which are the foundation of continuing diver education.

This course is intended to introduce you to each of the five specialties selected; not complete comprehension of the chosen specialty.

Best suited for: Certified divers who want to gain more experience, expand their diver knowledge and dive in new and more diverse environments.

Advanced Diver Program

The SDI Advanced Diver Program is designed for divers who are ready to push the boundaries and reach new levels of underwater performance.

This program is a combination of various specialty certifications and dive logs.  It helps you gain expertise in advanced techniques such as deep diving, navigation, night diving, etc. It is perfect when individuals want to master their accuracy, agility, and situational awareness.

Talk to the team about choosing the right specialties for you in a structured learning program which takes you step by step on your diving and learning journey.

Advanced Buoyancy

Without buoyancy, there’s no good diving. SDI Advanced Buoyancy Diver isn’t just another card; it’s your pass to becoming a truly capable diver.

You’ll improve your safety and comfort, especially on ascent and at your safety stop. Improve your body position, reduce effort and gas consumption, and treat the marine environment with the respect it deserves.

Through practical sessions, you will learn how to dive neutrally buoyant.  Our instructors are trained to address your individual needs to improve your balance and stability.

Why it’s important: The hallmark of an exceptional diver is exceptional buoyancy.

Deep Diver

The SDI Deep Diver course equips you with the skills you need to dive to greater depths.

Deep Diver Course is a must for any diver wishing to explore a little more, go a little deeper, and learn the risks and benefits associated with deep diving.  Many interesting sights lay just beyond open water diver training limits such as: beautiful wall dives, shipwrecks, and critters that don’t come into the shallows.

The purpose of this course is to provide the necessary training to plan and execute dives that are beyond the depth range experienced during an SDI Open Water Scuba Diver course, specifically beyond 18 metres/60 feet and to a maximum depth of not greater than 40 metres/130 feet. By the end of the course your knowledge, awareness, and comfort level with deep diving activities will have increased.

Best suited for divers looking to dive deep into wrecks or walls or other unusual geological formations in the presence of experts.

Dry Suit Diver

The SDI Dry Suit Diver Course will open up a whole new world of diving to you.  Many of the diving environments in Melbourne and around the world are better experienced in a dry suit. Why? These areas have an abundance of marine life waiting to be seen and photographed – they just happen to be a little colder! Dry suits are also used in tropical water during the cooler months. This course allows the student to develop the knowledge and skills to properly use a dry suit.  It will discuss the types of dry suits, accessories, maintenance and how to make basic repairs.

You will learn how to use a dry suit safely and efficiently, how to manage buoyancy.

This course is suitable for divers in Melbourne’s cold waters and provides divers with warmth as well as year-round diving opportunities.

Limited Visibility Diver Night

Many divers find that night diving is their favourite type of diving.  As with all specialty diving applications, procedures are different than those associated with open water diving. The purpose of this course is to acquaint the open water diver with the procedures, techniques, and potential hazards associated with diving at night, or in limited visibility.

Becoming familiar with the use of dive lights, and night diving techniques such as navigation, buddy system procedures, communications, buoyancy control, and interacting with nocturnal aquatic life, the diver can safely enjoy night diving.

This course offers a whole new understanding of diving. It is full of adventure, focus and appreciation of the marine environment.

Wreck Diver

Wreck diving can be one of the most exciting aspects of sport diving, however every effort must be made to maximize safe diving techniques. The SDI Wreck Diver Course will discuss the equipment and techniques commonly employed while wreck diving.

Our trainers focus on the safety, control and protection of our underwater heritage sites, as each wreck dive is carried out with precision.

You’ll Learn:
