SDI Advanced Buoyancy Diver Course

At Blue Water Ascent, we believe that buoyancy is the key to great diving. Regardless of your certification level or underwater aspirations, the ability to master buoyancy is the most life-changing skill you will ever master. The SDI Advanced Buoyancy Diver Program is designed to take your already acquired skills to a level of fluidity, control, and precision that makes every dive safe, easy, and more importantly, endlessly enjoyable.

Whether it’s a safety stop or finning style, trimming or accidentally disturbing the bottom, this course will transform you into a diver who will swim with purpose, conserve energy, and protect the marine world with every gentle kick.

Our Approach to Diver Development

Why Advanced Buoyancy Makes All the Difference?

Mastering buoyancy isn’t just a skill, it’s an entry point. When learned, it makes life easier, saves air; gives you longer underwater time and the ability to glide through the underwater environment without panic. The ideal diver with optimal trim and neutral buoyancy is safer, calmer and more environmentally responsible.

It’s much more than a few simple buoyancy exercises. With personalized coaching, new methods and controlled practice, you’ll have an instinctive mastery of position, movement and balance that will stay with you forever.

What You Will Learn in this Course?

Own Every Ascent & Safety Stop

You’ll know how to stop at the depth you want – without lifting up, diving down and moving. No more wild rides, kicking up dust or struggling at 5 meters. You’ll land a strong, solid, textbook-perfect stop every time.

Master Your Horizontal Trim

Advanced diving is based on horizontal trim. You will perfect your body posture as you gradually glide across your skates with minimal resistance, maximum air intake, and free control.

Hover Clean & Protect the Reef

Hovering is the art of not taking off your shoes, not attacking any fins, not touching any coral, and not doing anything to stir up sediment clouds. This course will guide you to become an environmentally conscious diver, with a gentle and thoughtful impact on the sensitive ecosystem.

Precise Weighting

Discover how to choose the right weight – how much – and where – to create stable, powerful, and effortless falls.

Effective Propulsion Methods

Train your frog kick, your improved flutter, back kick, helicopter turn, and how to propel yourself without creating waves on the bottom. Every kick is efficient, disciplined and easy.

Streamlined Gear Set-up

See the impact of different BCD styles, hose routing, accessories and trim weights on your balance and hydrodynamics. You’ll have a more manageable gear set, a cleaner one too.

Pool-Only Training? With Pleasure!

No need for ocean conditions to increase buoyancy. The entire training can be done in a small pool filled with water and is therefore ideal during off-season training, during the winter months or when divers want to be in an environment where they have control over the activity. There are fewer distractions and you’ll complete each movement as second nature.

Why Choose Blue Water Ascent?

Because skill matters. Because safety matters. Because control matters.

Our trainers are professionals in personalized training that builds confidence, comfort and ability. With small groups, practical workshops and coaching focused on your specific issues, you will experience a radical transformation in just a few sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I required to be a diversified diver to undertake this course?

No. Any registered open water diver is eligible to join. This course is for divers of any level who want to get fully energized and trim.

Although, typically 1 day of training, again, it will depend on how comfortable you are and how far you cover. Others, such as divers, may want a multi-session package to better master it.

Yes. The SDI Advanced Buoyancy Course can also be completed in confined water, which is ideal during offseason or winter training.

When considering e-learning students it has a short theory component, although there is a greater emphasis on practical, underwater skills.

Absolutely. Thinner and lighter = less effort = less gas consumption. The effect of a single session is felt by most divers.
