Who This Course Is For

  • Experienced divers ready to learn planned staged decompression.
  • Divers progressing toward Helitrox, Extended Range, Trimix or advanced wreck training.
  • Divers who want Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures as an integrated pathway.

Prerequisites and Readiness

  • Minimum age 18.
  • TDI Nitrox Diver or equivalent for the Advanced Nitrox component.
  • SDI Advanced Adventure Diver, SDI Advanced Diver, or equivalent for Decompression Procedures.
  • Proof of at least 25 logged open-water dives.
  • Consistent buoyancy, trim, propulsion, awareness and gas-sharing skills.

How Training Works

The combined program must satisfy the current requirements of both certifications. Blue Water Ascent delivers it over five days with a minimum of nine dives, supported by academic development, equipment and planning workshops, and land drills. Training progresses to planned staged decompression, with a maximum depth of 45 metres.

Course duration is performance-based. Meeting minimum attendance or dive numbers does not guarantee certification; all required knowledge and skills must be demonstrated consistently.

Skills and Knowledge

Plan staged-decompression dives and appropriate contingencies.
Calculate gas volumes, reserves, oxygen exposure and maximum operating depths.
Manage and positively identify decompression gases.
Maintain position and team awareness through gas switches and stops.
Respond to lost gas, failed equipment, delayed ascent and omitted-decompression scenarios.
Deploy a DSMB or lift bag and complete a controlled staged ascent.

Continue Your Development

Technical capability is developed through deliberate practice and experience between formal courses. Your next step should reflect your recent diving, equipment configuration and objectives.

The Blue Water Ascent approach

Competence Before Certification

We coach understanding, judgement and repeatable performance—not minimum-standard completion. Training is adapted to the diver while every certification requirement and course limit is preserved.
